Matthew Ray

Matthew Ray, 91, transitioned from this life on October 22, 2024 in Monroe, Louisiana. There will be no public viewing. Matthew Ray was born to James Ray, Sr. and Mary Mitchell Ray on September 17, 1933, in Shaw Mississippi. After a lengthy illness, he departed this on October 22, 2024 while peacefully sleeping in Monroe, Louisiana. Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Timothy Ray, Youlandia Ray, Frank Ray, James Ray, Jr., Dement Ray, L.Z. Ray, Lois Medell Ray, sisters Louise Ivey and Dorothy Baker Brown, and daughter Kelly Ray. He leaves behind to cherish his memory one brother Earnest Ray, one son Frank Dereck Jackson, and three of daughters: Gianna Ray Barnett, Traci Ray Parker, and Jasmine Ray as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of cherished friends. 

He is Gone

You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he's gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
